"It has always been clear to me that our work will only be sustainable if the many others with whom we work feel
empowered to turn our initial demonstrations into nationwide, systemic change."

Sustainable Business Development in Vietnam

IBLF's partnership with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry (VCCI) - with support from the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry led by Pentland and the UK's Department for International Development - has provided practical solutions for the Vietnamese business community.

The partnership has helped to significantly improve working conditions in footwear and garment factories with notable benefits for workers and business over a seven-year period. 60% of footwear companies have participated in the VCCI/IBLF programme and the lessons learned are now being applied in the garment sector.

The success of the initiative has encouraged the Vietnam government to adopt sustainable development as a central economic strategy, and VCCI established the Office for Business Sustainable Development in August 2006. This promotes sustainable business practices across major business sectors in Vietnam.
