Business of Health

Is there a business case for improving health, safety and wellness?

Ill-health and disease impair business performance by hampering individuals, communities and markets.

Together, the WBCSD and IBLF member companies represent over 15 million employees and reach up to three billion customers every day - all of which can provide an enormous opportunity to influence knowledge, understanding and behaviour with regard to health

Traditionally, promoting good health and ensuring adequate access to health services has been a function of government. However, it is increasingly apparent that companies are paying greater attention to ensuring the well-being of their employees.

IBLF's Healthy Eating & Active Living Global Partnership (HEAL) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development have produced a report demonstrating the clear business case for companies to tackle health issues.

The Business of Health - The Health of Business comprises case studies demonstrating the business case for involvement in issues such as chronic diseases, HIV/AIDS, cardiovascular health and mental ill-health.

Here are just a few of the case studes contained in the report. Click on each one to find out more:

Transferring a successful youth programme from Poland to Russia

Autokreacja CampIBLF is transferring and adapting its successful Autokreacja Camp model from Poland to Russia, in order to address issues of youth employability and entrepreneurship.

The aim of the project - called New Life Scenarios for Russian Youth - is to build up the capacity of youth NGOs in St Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast in order to improve young people's employability skills and set up a number of career consulting centres. The programme is based on the adaptation of IBLF's international experience in this area.

The first training programme took place in St Petersburg in March 2006, where the trainers presented IBLF's international experience which they had studied during Polish and UK visits earlier in the year.

The participants came from Vyborg, Tosno, Slantsy, Volhov, Gatchina and St Petersburg and intend to develop or enhance their capacity and helping young people shape their future.
