Much of our recent work in Thailand has stemmed from the business response to the 2004 tsunami.
On March 1 2006 IBLF and Thai businesses launched the Thailand Business Partnership for Community Development – an initiative to enable companies collectively initiate, support and implement sustainable projects with long term benefits to Thailand's disadvantaged communities.
The initiative was launched in the wake of IBLF's Tsunami Task Force, which took place in September 2005. The focus on our work in Thailand has now moved towards raising responsible business standards in Thailand, and a range of activities are underway to promote a collective business response to corruption.
Who is involved?
IBLF's advisory group includes representatives from KPMG, Diageo, ThaiBev, Nestle, Manpower, Cadbury Thailand, The Nation Multimedia Group, The Stock Exchange of Thailand and the Institute of Directors. The Population and Community Development Association (PDA) is included as one of the major implementing organisations.

Youth Career Initiative
YCI is a programme of IBLF that uses the human, financial and technical resources of the hotel industry to provide young people in developing countries with valuable life and vocational skills, which they have limited opportunities to acquire elsewhere.
The programme began in Bangkok in 1995 at the Pan Pacific Hotel, and over 10 years it has grown to include many other hotels in Thailand.
In Northern Thailand the programme has significantly reduced the numbers of young girls at risk of exploitation. The initiative has been recognised by UNAIDS as a best practice for the prevention of HIV/AIDS.

Disaster response
Following the Asian tsunami of 2004, IBLF developed an initiative to advise businesses on how they can assist in disaster response and long-term recovery. Our work culminated in a report in March 2006 entitled
Best Intentions, Complex Realities - Lessons from the tsunami: how business can use its goodwill and resources to provide effective assistance to disaster relief and recovery efforts.
