IBLF has been active in China with leading companies and government authorities since 1992.
IBLF has focused on issues as diverse as environmental management, management development and education, business practices, human rights and labour standards, transparency, corruption and employment development.
China Business Leaders Forum
In 2005 IBLF launched the China Business Leaders Forum, in partnership with the Renmin University of China, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of State Council (SASAC) and the China Development Bank.
The China Business Leaders Forum meets quarterly in Beijing and Shanghai, and focuses on peer-to-peer exchange on business standards including transparency. Topics have included tendering & procurement, sustainability, transparency across business operations, recruitment and development of employees, corporate social responsibility and cross-cultural management. The initiative has brought together individuals from 300 international and domestic companies working in a range of departments - including human resources, finance and procurement.
These leaders are collectively developing a sustainable framework of good corporate governance for promotion across the wider business community. As an extension of this work, IBLF is now working with the University to establish a permanent, locally managed China Centre for International Business Standards housed at the University with full-time staff and is engaged with a small number of founding corporate supporters to help shape the initiative.
The creation of the new Centre will expand the levels of participation and support by both Chinese and foreign businesses, as well as government agencies and will strengthen the relationships with local and international organisations to achieve sustained improvement in business standards and the application of codes of practice across China. It will also provide a platform to influence international practice by Chinese companies and to highlight the contribution of global business to sustainability in China.
During 2007 and 2008, IBLF worked with Transparency International and the China Europe International Business School to run workshops on business against corruption.
