RESPONSIBLE DIGITAL MARKETING

Innovative digital technologies - from interactive platforms to mobile communication devices - offer consumers an ever changing and clever range of new opportunities for education, learning and accessing information. However, along with the positive benefits that technology can offer consumers, there may also be exposure to potentially harmful and irresponsible digital content.

Companies are facing growing pressure to devise and communicate clear policies on their marketing activities so customers can become better-educated consumers, better-informed citizens, and are therefore better able to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Since early-2010, IBLF has been a partner in a consortium led by the National Heart Forum to look at developing a set of Voluntary Principles to underpin all forms of marketing of food to children, particularly where established, mandatory, self or co-regulatory regimes do not exist. This work has been commissioned by England’s Department of Health.
