BUSINESS AND HEALTH

As a major player in economic development, business has the potential to make a substantial impact on global health. Improving healthcare, fighting disease and increasing life expectancy are all essential for long-term business success.

Corporate engagement in health initiatives can also improve a company's reputation, as well as help find new business opportunities. In short: a healthy community means more productive workers, more prosperous customers, the potential for new markets and increased sources of income. IBLF develops industry-specific health frameworks and is a key partner of the Pan American Health Organisation’s (PAHO) Partners Forum for Action on Chronic Diseases. We also co-convene cross-sector forums to promote awareness on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and recently released 'Many Healthy Returns', a specialist report on the private sector’s role in combating NCDs.
IBLF's programme on chronic disease works to tackle both ends of the spectrum and encourages the private sector to respond to this through:

• Co-convening cross-sector forums to promote awareness on NCDs. This includes addressing food and nutrition policies, alcohol abuse prevention and the promotion of physical activity to prevent obesity and chronic diseases.
• Developing industry-specific health and wellness frameworks showcasing how core business skills and capacities can be used to enhance health.
• Supporting partnerships to combat chronic disease and promote consumer health.
