Pioneering employee community engagement activity in Russia and Hong Kong

9 July 2008

At the end of May, Community Business launched ENGAGE in Hong Kong. Employees from 15 companies worked together to deliver the ‘Journey of Opportunity’ Action Day, contributing their time and skills to help build the aspirations of young people in Tin Shui Wai, one of the poorest districts in the province. IBLF Corporate Partners Starbucks and Standard Chartered took part in the activities, hosting university students from Tin Shui Wai and sharing advice and information about the world of work and work opportunities.

In Russia, IBLF facilitated employee engagement training for 45 company managers in the two capital cities of Moscow and St Petersburg. Set within the context of an emerging corporate culture to support employee community engagement and the key issues for business of staff retention and motivation, IBLF equipped the participants with clear guidelines for successful design and management of corporate volunteering programmes. The programmes included case study examples from leading Russian and international companies: Coca-Cola, Citi Russia, Motorola, TMK, and ABN-Amro. In St Petersburg, the Ready Steady Go workshop was organised with the Stockholm School of Economics and the NGO Development Centre and included practical opportunities to experience employee engagement when managers shared their employability and marketing skills with Nochlezhka and Infacto, local NGOs dealing with homelessness and disability.
